My 5 Step Guide to a Successful Year!

Happy New Year! After a hectic + stressful 2012 + taking some much-needed time away to play in the surf, sand + sun, I welcome 2013 with open arms as a chance at a new perspective + a fresh start. In getting started in making changes + following through I’ve shared my guide to success in the new year.

Set Your Goals

They say that 80% of people who write down their goals, actually achieve them – Write them down! I like to review + adjust mine every 4-6 months to ensure that I am on target + seeing results. Getting your goals down on paper will help you to figure out what you really want to take from the coming year + specify how you will get there. Be actionable.

Make Health + Fitness a Priority

It’s true our body is our temple, as cliché as that may sound. And while we tend to find any excuse we can to avoid hitting the gym, the truth is that getting in at least 1 hr a day of physical activity whether at the gym or at home is crucial to our success in other aspects of our lives. Our health should be our #1 priority to living a happy long life.

De-Clutter

Taking the time to de-clutter will not only help to create a clean, organized space making you feel better, but I’m a firm believer that it leads to time used more efficiently and in turn increasing productivity.

Replenish

2013 should be your year to drop what’s weighing you down + replenish yourself with the things that will help you achieve your goals. Too often, we are lead to believe that we can fuel our bodies with just anything like the latest quick ‘snacks’ on the go. I recently saw a great photo on instagram that read: “Fruit is fast food” – yes, it may take a little more time + preparation to get all the good stuff but in the long-term, why not be the best we can be? Make the time + do what’s best for your body + your life.

Do Something Different

We can’t expect different results by doing the same things. Why not make this year the year to take a chance at something you’ve always wanted? You won’t know unless you try – what have you got to lose?

No matter what you’re trying to achieve this year, big or small make it the best it can be!

Ladies – We Can Wear Movember Mustaches Too!

We all know what comes with November, the spread of awareness for Prostate Cancer by donning the spectacular Movember Mustache! For all those ladies that may have felt left out, this is a great way for us to show our support!

4 amazingly talented fourth year BBA Marketing Management students approached me to help spread the word + complete their final business project at Kwantlen Polytechnic University. And of course, I was happy to help any way I could. They are in the midst of selling the adorable Movember Mustache necklaces for an exclusive price of $15 each, until November 30th. You can purchase the necklace here. They have recently been featured in the Vancouver Sun and will soon make an appearance on Breakfast Television.

10% of each sale will be donated directly to the Cancer Foundation with any remaining profits generated being donated to Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s Venture Fund, which supports young entrepreneurs starting new businesses.

I would love for all my readers to support them and help them ace this business launch!

Cowboy Boots

On a spectacularly sunny Saturday, I centered my outfit choice around a pair of vintage cowboy boots. Summer has finally begun! Saturday was the first day I could feel the change of season, once again turning to Summer – the air, warm + sweet unlike that bite of cold we’d had just days before. The first weekend where I could ditch the layers + sport some shorts.

These photos were shot outside of my home – wearing white denim shorts, a striped top with embellished collar + cream-colored cardigan.

I’m Wearing

VINTAGE COWBOY BOOTS
FOREVER 21 WHITE DENIM SHORT
FOREVER 21 TOP/EMBELLISHED COLLAR
JOE FRESH CARDIGAN
RAY BAN AVIATORS
STELLA & DOT JEWELS

Casual Friday

This post is coming to you a little late (Sorry!), I’ve been once again swamped by books. Is anyone else in this situation at the moment as well? There’s nothing more challenging than trying to study when the sun is shinning + the sky is blue, the way it has been these last couple of days. But nonetheless, I’ve got a degree to complete and time will not stop for me.

On Friday I chose a comfortable, simple look starting with a pair of gold flats, white denim + striped blue sweater.  This is typical of what you could find me studying in or heading to the university campus in when I want something cute yet comfortable.

I’m Wearing

JOE FRESH WHITE DENIM
JOE FRESH STRIPED SWEATER
NO BOUNDARIES FLATS
FOREVER 21 NECKLACE
BFREND BRACELETS
JUICY COUTURE WATCH
LOUIS VUITTON DAMIER AZUR CANVAS

Personal Style

After some reflection, I’ve been thinking of changing up the content of my blog a little. I want to incorporate more of my life + personal style to this little blog of mine, be more of an open book – with great attention to detail. Some (of many..) of my greatest passions in life are fashion + photography, so I hope to blend the two in hopes of giving Must-have Maven a more unique, organic feel. In doing so, I also hope to engage + interact more with the lovely people from all around the world that take precious minutes out of their day to even read my blog. Here is a sneek peek at what I’ve got coming for you in tomorrow’s post. Happy Friday!

I hope that you will enjoy the change coming in the next couple of weeks, as much as I enjoy creating it! Your thoughts + comments are warmly welcomed :)

Rain, Rain, Go Away

Waking up to pouring rain + grey skies can make it hard to climb out of bed on this slow-moving Monday morning! So grab your cutest pair of Hunter rain boots + smear on some bright lipstick to tackle to rainy week ahead! We’re expecting a rain-filled week…depressing? slightly, but the rain is what makes Vancouver look so lush + green come Summer. It’s not all bad! Have a great start to your week!! XO

Beat the Monday Blues

Our weekend of fun has come and gone + now you’re left to face that icky feeling in the pit of your stomach called Monday morning. I don’t know about you, but come Monday I need a little more motivation to climb out of my cozy bed + make my way to the office. Here’s to making it to work on time + the start of a fresh week! Have a great day XO
